Calling all Australian Coaching Psychologists Living and Working in the UK

After a successful year as Chair of the British Psychological Society's Special Group in Coaching Psychology, I am now looking forward to the future.

As an Australian psychologist living and working in the UK I have found it quite challenging to find professional development activities that are both relevant to Coaching Psychology and at an appropriate professional level with regard to membership of the APS College of Organisational Psychologists.

Coaching psychology is integrative, so it is important to draw together elements of psychological practice from across different parts of the profession in a cohesive way. In my personal circumstances it is also important to work in a manner that is contextualised for business.

An exciting new development in professional practice has been piloted by the Australian Psychological Society and which I would like to explore. The term peer consultation is used in place of the term 'supervision' because the term supervision is strongly associated with trainee and 'master/student' so it can be misleading when applied to the kind of supervision performed in a collegiate professional relationship.

The concept of the peer consultation network based on clear guidlines and linked formally with the APS offers great potential for establishing professional environment where equals could share their experience and development expertise on the basis of mutual collaborative learning.

This kind of face-to-face work is very important to complement to support that we can access through an internet forum such as www.coachingpsychologist.net.

So, are there any fellow Australians who are interested in meeting physcially either in Oxford or London for the purpose of setting up an formal 'peer consultation' network for Australian Coaching Psycholgists who are in the UK?
Peer consultation networks are by nature small and the experiences of existing cluster groups in Australia suggest that we only need a stable 'core' membership of around 12-15 members.

The guidelines can be accessed by APS members at the following location.

So, if you are an Aussie in the UK and interested in meeting to discuss how we might set up such a group locally in the UK, please do get in touch with me at pauline.willis@lauriate.com in the New Year

In the meantime
Happy Holidays!

Pauline
